❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start?+
Save +254 107 303 239 on WhatsApp, then send 'Hi'. The bot will ask for your parent or guardian's name + phone number to record consent. Once accepted, you can start learning.
Is it really free?+
Yes — the Free tier gives 5 questions per day on every grade (1–9) forever. For unlimited daily questions, plans start from KES 30/day via M-Pesa.
Why does the bot ask for my parent's phone number?+
Darasa Live follows the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019. Students under 18 need a parent or guardian's consent before we can process their data. Your parent's name + phone is recorded as the consenting party.
Can I use Darasa Live in Kiswahili?+
Yes. Type 'language' to switch. We currently support English and Kiswahili. The bot teaches each subject in the right language — Kiswahili lessons are taught in Kiswahili, everything else in English.
How do I take a quiz?+
Type 'quiz' followed by a subject. Examples: 'quiz math', 'quiz english', 'quiz kiswahili'. The bot asks 5 multiple-choice questions and shows your score using the CBC rubric (EE/ME/AE/BE).
How do I send my homework to the bot?+
Take a clear photo of the question (good lighting, no shadows) and send it. The bot reads the question and guides you through the steps — it won't just give you the answer.
How do parents get progress reports?+
Once you've registered your parent's number during consent, weekly progress reports are sent automatically to their WhatsApp every Sunday. They can also type 'score' anytime to check progress.
How do payments work?+
When you're ready to upgrade, type 'PAY DAILY' (KES 30), 'PAY WEEKLY' (KES 150), 'PAY MONTHLY' (KES 500), or 'PAY TERM' (KES 1,200). The bot triggers an M-Pesa STK Push to your phone — enter your PIN to confirm.
The bot is slow or not replying. What do I do?+
First, wait 10–15 seconds — the AI sometimes takes a moment. If it's been over a minute, send another message. If still nothing, message us at the contact below — there might be a session issue we need to fix.
Can the AI make mistakes?+
Yes. Darasa Live is an AI tutor and can be wrong, especially on tricky questions. Always cross-check important answers with your teacher or textbook. We follow the KICD CBC curriculum but aren't a replacement for school.
How do I delete my data?+
Type 'STOP' on WhatsApp at any time and we'll delete your records. You can also email us — full deletion happens within 14 days as required by Kenyan law.
Is my child safe using the bot?+
Yes. We follow CBC child safety guidelines, refuse off-topic and inappropriate content, never collect more data than necessary, and direct any safeguarding concerns to Childline Kenya (116). Parents can request a study summary at any time by typing 'report'.
